Look at this pic when he says " Yeah we do" and the pic where he sits in the chair. The top scar is still slightly seen but where is the lower one? Perhaps these 2 scenes are not back to back as they would seem to show in the trailer. Just sayin....

Remember there is stuff in trailers that are NOT in the movies. A lot of times footage shot is used for trailers only and not the movie or is on the cutting room floor and used in trailers. Two months is a long time!!

The cut is there only less noticeable from the camera angle. Kirk has the same cuts and bruising on his face when he climbs out of the pod on the ice planet.

Yeah. It'd Spock's his ship has a a section that spins around the primary hull, kinda like the Vulcan ships from Enterprise.

I think you're mistaken.
There is no alpha character before the "L".
"Lowell" named for the observatory is probably closer to the mark - or possibly even some inside reference from ILM.
