On the Tread Topic:
I'm not sure what everyone else was expecting but the ship looks the same in motion and in all three trailers. There is nothing different at all. It doesn't look any better or worse than the first time you see it. It still has over sized engines and a goose neck posture while looking like a mismatch of design concepts.

It still looks bad and poorly designed.
I could easily do an analysis of the badly designed aspects of the original and refit if you want....

I can do that with any Starfleet ship in any era.

It isn't difficult to analyse the faults in some else's design. Harder to do your own design from scratch. Out of interest, and without trying to be rude, can you do that?

Tell me about it. I used to design new ships during my fanfic writin' days and it was a challenge coming up with something that (A) didn't look like it would fly apart the moment the moment it left drydock, (B) had all the Treknobabble stuff necessary for a Trek story, and (C) didn't just look like a lazy retread/kitbash of what had come before.

I generally failed all three over and over again...

I used to design Trek ships. But then I started to realize they all look like Enterprise refits.... *sighs*

It's really refreshing to hear you say that you respect how difficult the process is. Redesigning something so iconic with so much expectation when so much work has been done already is really, really tough..We all have our opinions about the various designs, I can understand where some of the more extreme haters of the new design are coming from, there are aspects of many of the designs past and present that I've not been sure about. I never liked the Enterprise D or E, myself. I think the new design is strong and will look very good on the big screen from many angles and I'm sure the guys at ILM will squeeze every ounce of coolness from it. I know that I couldn't have come up with a design from scratch as successful as Ryan Church's design for the new movie.

Can i poke holes in my own designs? No, probably not. But that wasn't my point. I was just saying that for all the faults people pick with the new design, you can easily find faults with the others.
