What were the overall dimensions?

I'm looking at the schematics on some of the sites.
It says that the Star Trek phase two / Motion Picture layout was redressed for the next generation...



Stage 9 is best known for housing Engineering, Sickbay, Junior Quarters, Cargo Bay/Holodeck, the Transporter Room, and corridors on The Next Generation and Voyager.

Originally, when the Phase II series was approved, Stage 9 was designated for its permanent sets [2]. These were built and later revised for The Motion Picture. At this point, the bridge set was on this stage as well [3].

1987-1994: The Next Generation

In the first years of The Next Generation, the sets of Stage 9 were mildly redressed versions of the sets used in the movies. The junior officers' quarters were a mild redress of the movie quarters, the transporter room was more heavily modified, and Engineering was rebuilt, keeping only the structural elements of the second floor. Sickbay was expanded, and the curved wall was replaced to double as the Observation Lounge. Finally, the location of the movie bridge was re-used as the location of the Battle Bridge.

I'm not seeing anything that pertains to the 1960's

Well like I said...
from the back of the command chair to the rear consoles on both bridges the distance is the same or similar. The TOS consoles can fit on the barrier of the red and grey carpt and with the barriacade and walk way in from of the TOS screen we've got two or 3 maybe 4 more feet tot he main view screen on the TNG set. I measure the distances on the sides of both command chairs to the walls the same.

Since the bridges are obviously not the same shape that means the set of TNG is longer.

I actually used the command chairs to scale them.
I then used the hieght of one of the crewmen to compare with the two newly scaled images to establish if the screw are of similar hieghts.

The crewman are similar hieghts on both images.
Admitedly this is precarous. The only factors that are the same is the 3D planar the artist drew both images by but the angle of the center of each bridge is different, this should not impace the Z axis however.

There is a question of is either image drawn in parralel or perspective. It is not clear. Thus there is a potential error of 5 to 7 percent.

With that said, this would seem to substaniate my visual observations that the TOS bridge is smaller but to be conclusive a bridge layout of each would be necessary to rule out all doubt.

Remember there were other rooms on the TNG Stage. The ready Room and Confrence Room. These areas can be retooled and maybe on the same set but The TOS and TNG do not have the same dimensions. Not from what I've seen thus far.

I could be wrong, but I could swear that I heard that both bridges were just about the same size...with the TNG coming in only just a little bigger then TOS....even though it seems much bigger.

I will say that I was sorely disappointed when I went to Star Trek:The Experience.....I was all geared up because I heard that they had a replica of the TNG bridge and when the turbolift doors opened and we walked onto the bridge.....I literally groaned. It was incredibly small and no where near accurate.....

*sigh* I know I should'nt have expect as much but, I did. I will say though I enjoyed Quarks bar immensly.....

I read that somewhere too. The TOS bridge looks cramped, the TNG bridge "spacy". Add distortion by camera angles/ lenses etc and this fools the eye.
