Possible (and it is indeed sir). There's a novel by Peter David that answers the question. (You'll know it by the title).

Of course, I would never even begin to suggest that I know what (if any) novels are considered canon.

The Trelane - Q connection was alluded to in preproduction of ST:TNG; I remember reading it in magazines etc... However, nothing associated with the movies has ever solidified the relationship of these non-corporeal beings.

I, for one, hope there isn't so much as a whiff of this sub-plot... The time travel and recently rumored dimensional shift plot lines are enough.

Good science fiction will ask us to suspend our concept of reality for only one or two extraordinary sub-plots (in addition to that of the star trek universe of course). If there is too much "hinkyness" crammed into this flick; it won't gain the franchise one new fan beyond what they already have.

Oh for God's sake, the only one who brings Q off is DeLancie. He's nowhere near being in the credits.

However, since your Garden Variety Writer's Strike appears to be over, there is time for some rewrites.

The problem with "THEM" is that it's a little too "in-universe" a concept to be understood by the mass audience. You'd have to have some of the 24th Century Crowd around to bring the audience up to speed. That's the problem with Q.

For those 'fans' who do not read the books, THEM are some kind of overall 'master' beings that are so far beyond the Q that Q has to come up with a plan to stop THEM from snuffing out the 'Star Trek' universe - simply because THEM are bored of that universe.

As cool as having a member of THEM in the new movie would be, I am not sure how it would fit in with the rumored storyline in place. Would make an interesting twist perhaps but would be a dissappointing outcome if it revolved around THEM.
