So, what are your theories regarding unexplained plot points in the new comic series? How is Data still alive all these years after his death in NEMESIS? How did he get to be Captain of the Enterprise? Where is Picard? Just how much have we missed in the 24th century?
My theory is: The writers don't consider NEMESIS to be canon (for two reasons. A: Abrams never saw NEMESIS, and B: It sucked). This explains Data. My explanation for Picard: he was killed in combat of some sort. I refuse to believe he accepted a promotion after what Kirk told him in GENERATIONS. Data assumed command after Picard's death, which explains him being Captain. And if the stardates are correct, we have missed eight years since NEMESIS (the year is now 2387, whereas it was 2379 in NEMESIS). So, let the debate begin!

Well I know that Picard is still alive in the comic book. He was in the first one. I haven't gotten the new one yet.

I doubt they never viewed Nemesis as Canon, perhaps it is the B-4 unit that after 8 years successful assimilation of Data's memories began calling himself Data.
It's more likely that Picard has indeed either moved to another ship, been promoted or has retired from Starfleet to pursue other interests (Archeology maybe?).

B4 can become Data, why not?
Picard is on a cover, so I expect him to appear. Both Data and Picard wear the FC uniform on the covers, not the STO uniform we saw in the comics.

It's kind of murder, isn't it ?
It's exactly the same thing Ira Graves tried in "The Schizoid Man". Occupying Data's body and surpress his consciousness. For Data doing the same thing would be ruthlessly. Apart from that it's a shameless "Search for Spock" rip-off. |

The only other options would be that Data did not get atomised by the destruction of the Scimitar and was somehow recovered.
Or a new body was built and the memories transferred back from the B-4 unit into the new body which was not named and they called it Data.

But is countdown in a new universe? If it's before Nero goes back in time then it's the original universe, and if countdown has no material that takes place after he goes back then it's all contained before the timeline canges take effect.
