It's on the buildings in the foggy San Francisco shot with the two shuttles flying by.

I remember from the spy shots that the Academy's covered with the Enterprise-Starfleet logo. Oh well, who cares, right?

Along with an Easter Egg reference to CLOVERFIELD.

Oh well…

The UFP flag also decorates the shipyard. I don't think it's bad, it's just that I expected TOS symbols.

That would be quite logical considering that this movie takes place in the TOS era.

Because in the 23rd century, your NexTel DirectConnect gets four bars without a cell tower and lets you call someone in orbit or on the other side of the planet.

It ain't all about looks, folks...

TPTB realized a long time ago that there were too many different symbols. They want something instantly recognizable as Trek, and the E emblem is it. The universal symbol for SFCOM has been the arrowhead/delta/whatever since TMP.

This arrowhead shape, with similar asymmetry as the previous incarnation, had roots in history as being used in a basic form on the United States armed forces space command ratings badge and unit insignia, and on UESPA exploration vessels.

I think it was somewhat careless of JJ and co. to place ENT, TOS, TMP, and TNG emblems all over the place seemingly at random. That makes me wonder about what other future references will be in this supposedly TOS-era movie.
