Default Sarek in STXI

I just finished watching Star Trek IV and at one point Sarek states to Spock that he recalls being opposed to Spock's enlistment at starfleet Do you think we will see any father/son animosity between Spock and Sarek in the new film (expressed in a very logical and calm Vulcan way of course), especially concerning Starfleet?

I think we will. Sarek is seen on some kind of council/court panel, with Spock in front of it, in the trailer.

I hope so. That would be a crucial tie in that most fans would want to see and a way for non fans to get to know the real Spock.

Cool

One would think that the events in Spock's life should not be inordinately affected by the timeline divergence until he and Kirk meet, so what we see of Spock's life before meeting Kirk should be regarded as what probably happened in the "real" timeline...

It depends how and where Nero interferes with the past. But the voiceovers from the trailer would imply that Sarek and Spock certainly confront such issues re: Starfleet, Vulcan duty, etc.

Yeah, but why did they have to give STXI Sarek one of those "veddy veddy" English accents? It used to be good for added instant-nobility-recognition... these days, though, that's just played out.

Not a jib, or a jab, but is there anything that you won't complain about regarding this film?

The roll of duct tape in that one photo wasn't terribly offensive.

Sarek's accent isn't all that English in the trailer, he's still firmly at the American end of the spectrum... Just in the 'sophisticated and slightly English' niche.

I'm thinking that shot in the trailer with Spock standing before the what? council? Tribunal?....with Sarek as one of the what? judges? indicates we'll be seeing some conflict.
