To me, it looks very similar to the ship's markings from the Original Series
Of course, the asymmetry of the delta is greatly exaggerated, but I'd chalk that up to it being a decal on a small model, rather than what we'll see in the film.

I'm surprised that after accepting the changes to the ship and the TOS history as we know it, some of us are questioning the accuracy of the Starfleet symbol. As I said in another thread, I am cosidering this movie to be Someone Else's Dream. For all I care now, the symbol could be a penragram.

Okay...The student is seated and raising his hand...

The Star Trek "chevron" as we know it...Wasn't that emblem supposed to be just for the Enterprise, and different Starfleet vessels had different emblems? And if so, what did they signify? Were they different battlegroups?

I know that folk on both sides of the love it/hate it coin will know this answer. Just wanting to know. Thanks! :0)

I'm gonna answer this one by quoting myself from another thread:

At least for a brief time, until the movies took over.

Not that it really matters, though, in the long run.
