Very good point, I've looked at episode lists and I like season 6 a lot, I just don't know...

Personally I would go with Season 7 (if you ignore Sub Rosa) but 3 and 6 are excellent as well. You can't really go wrong though.

Sorry, I was wrong about that Borg episode, it's season 3, not 4. Yeah Season 3 is really good!

As far as my preference, I would get Season 5.
The highlights: -Darmok -Unification, Parts 1 and 2 -The Outcast -Cause and Effect -I, Borg -The Inner Light -Time's Arrow, Part 1 There are several other really good ones, but the above mentioned are the best! Plus, Picard gets a cool new uniform for this season!

Season 3...it has 2 of the "best Star Trek Ever" episodes: Yesterday Enterprise and The Best of Both Worlds I...(which has the best ever season ending cliffhanger...one word..."FIRE"...) it also had The Child which is a great Data episode. I don't know that there's a bad episode in the set (I have only one season of Next Gen...this is it).

I would go with either Season 3 or Season 6. Season 6 was my favorite.

^Two of the better eps from Season 1, and probably the ones that are necessary for TNG fans to have in their collection, are also available on the cheaper collection, "Star Trek: Fan Collective - Q" - "Encounter at Farpoint" and "Hide and Q". Otherwise, I agree with what you're suggesting. Season 1 was definitely a series of stories trying to find their identity. And ultimately, they did!

I recently had the same dilemma, and decided just to start with season 1. In fact I'm getting ready to watch "Datalore" from that DVD set right now. I know it's not the best season, but not having watched most of these episodes since they originally aired, it has been a real treat to enjoy this series from the beginning.
