Umm the Romulans have always hated the vulcans? Plust they are a major part of the federation?

As far as the title give Jtrek a bit of a break English isn't his first language.

I tend to agree with Omegaman on the importance of Vulcan. I suspect Nero has dual objectives and one of them is to take that pesky Vulcan out of the picture entirely.

I, too, agree with Omegaman...And also the way the "problem" could have been resolved. Oh, well...A man's gotta dream!

Having Vulcan at stake is a great idea, I think. We already know about Earth, so focusing on Vulcan adds that 'strange new world' quality. Also, it'll add to Spock's character, having him confront a threat to his home planet. Plus it's just a little silly - not to mention statistically improbable - to have the Enterprise saving Earth, and only Earth, in every other film

Sorry. Wasn't trying to be a jerk, I was/am just sincerely confused by it.

Plus Vulcan plays an important part in the Federation, no? It's destruction (and absence) would have huge implications on a 'new' future, as Nero likely intends.

In an attempt to change the future, killing one man alone is a rather weak and risky strategy -- better to attack key players and events in that future across the board and truly disrupt the 'pre-determined' flow of those events and those participating in them. Wide scale disruption would cause many more ripples in the river of time than simply dropping in one pebble from the bank.

Why is Earth more important?

Vulcans are more intelligent, have these cool telepathic abilities and they even are stronger than humans, they are a lot more dangerous to any hostile race.
Vulcans are one of the Federation founder members, one of the most common species in starfleet, one of the most influential races in the whole Federation.

Besides: Vulcan is the origin of the Romulans. When Romulans think of the Federation they don't think of humans, they think of their brothers and sisters on Vulcan.
