JJA might be no Trek fan, but Orci and Lindelof are. Sounds like 'the best of both worlds' to me, a writer and a producer who are fans as well as a writer and a producer who are no fans. You get two perspectives on everything and can approximately judge whether whatever you do tends to work for fans and the general audience.

And not being a Trek fan didn't stop good ol' Nick Meyer from getting rave reviews.

You've seen enough to make conclusions. I suspect you're just in ferocious denial about the conclusions you'd naturally be inclined to make.

How do you know what the natural conclusions for everyone would be?

I never said I do know the natural conclusion for "everyone." But when someone is generally optimistic about a subject but fiercely excludes a particular set of data within the subject area, it's generally to avoid acknowledging that said data will diminish his enthusiasm.

I'm waiting to see it in motion on the big screen; I'm not going to judge it by what I see in some relatively tiny freeze-frames on the internet. I'm waiting to hear all the little background noises and to see how the crew interacts with the environment.

Note the guy taking a leak by the turbolift doors... And Tim Allen called, he wants his chair from the Protector back...
