Agreed. We should never expect to be told everything before we can see the film, there would be no point to then actually seeing it!

I don't mind snippets of the big sequences, but I'd rather they left some surprises for the actual viewing. Then again they have to tantalise folks in to the cinema so maybe it's a bit of a balancing act.

There's yet another side to this common sense observation: simply seeing the bridge in use throughout the film is one thing, but how we perceive it will also change with the meaning the story gives it (be it a positive or negative impression).
We have no way to make such an emotional connection to this new ship (or characters), yet we've had up to four decades to associate meaning and feelings with previous TREK. One may think the new ship looks too different or just strange in some aspects, but after the film displays it in a dramatic context (and perhaps those differences have a complete rationale behind them), other perceptions will undoubtedly color opinions of that very same ship though the design hasn't changed one bit. There's no telling what we'll think of it when May arrives.

really what's all this crap about cannon and continuity as long as you get that tension from Spock trying to control emotions and kirk always trying to get him to be human. as far as I'm concerned as long as they don't pull a serious stunt of changing the gender of any of the major characters (see Boomer and Starbuck i think in BSG, although i do realize they needed to add some females in bigger roles) then I don't give a crap how modern and awesome they make the bridge. granted the white is a little blinding but it lets you see whats going on. good or bad better or worse as long as they don't land the ship on a planet and open a stable wormhole to earth or fight a giant planet sized ship that has a fatal ventilation shaft (hah like that even works no air in space for heat to transfer out by).
you really want to force the 1960's trek on the new generation of would be trekkers go ahead and see how well we take to it. as i see it the new bridge hell everything in the new startrek is speaking to my generation we're the ones who will have to put up with trek for the future, we're the ones who will carry on the legacy. If we're stuck with vacuum tube sets and padds that look more like clipboards then how do you expect us to look to the stars with hope of oneday actually going there? IMO LCARS could do with an overhaul to it works right now but it has an ancient windows3.1 or dos or even OS1 feel to it. colors are fine but make it more 3d i'd even let you get away with adding mroe colors. |

I really don't see the hooplah surrounding the bridge! It has all the elements that make it a Federation Starship bridge. The Center Seat...Conn and Ops Stations...Communications and Science stations ...etc, etc, etc. Sure the design is different but to me it looks fresh and new. Like a new house that is waiting to be lived in. Yeah it is awkward at first but you get used to your surroundings.
