It would be a let down if it were, IMO. Kinda like the way B&B ended ST: Enterprise.

The way I heard it, that was a big part of the inspiration for this movie. So I'm guessing yes.

Especially if it plays out the way many of us know from either the books, or the videogame (SNES) of Starfleet Academy. There is a Kobayashi Maru scenario that you can play...and with a special key code, you could play the KM as Kirk played it.

A novel was written about the Kobayashi Maru ( even though the novels back then weren't considered canon) and it seemed to have some very entertaining takes on how the various main crew members handled their test, including Kirk's (the story of which is reflected in the SNES Starfleet Academy game).

The big question remains: will the Kobayashi Maru test be multiple choice or essay? And will Kirk forget his #2 pencil?!

Default it's only my opinion but...

I hope they don't waste too much valuable screen time on the Kobayashi Maru test. We don't need to seek Kirk skulking around the Academy corridors late at night and reprogramming the computer simulation just because he does not like to lose. It think it sends out the wrong impression.

From the trailer, I don't see too much time being spent in the Academy at all, which would allay your concern, Omega. I think the test will be a dramatic, character-defining moment for Kirk... but a scene, not a sequence.

I have a bad feeling this version of Kirk is a captain a quickly. Unrealistic to say the least. So not much academy stuff i bet. I hope at least they "simulate" the time that goes by to make the whole captain thing realistic.
