Too old, too fat, too late, no Shat.

Don't get me wrong... I grew up with Shatner's Kirk and he is my boyhood hero! But the man is too old and too far gone physically to portray Kirk with any sort of dignity any more. Plus the mechanism required to get him into the film - short of simply ignoring his death in GEN - would be the most convoluted fanwank imaginable.

I look forward to Chris Pine's portrayal and don't think we need to dwell on the franchise's past.

Is it bad that I want to start a thread that says, "How to keep Shatner OUT of the movie?" just to be contrary?

Guess I understand sorta, but they could still do it before he dies :P How you get that point to the viewers, I don't know... I'm also not one of those crazed trek fans that want everything to be 100% and freak out about the button being blue and not red or the enterprise being built on earth and not in space... *shrugs* Just a TV show/Movie
That's fine .

Just be prepared for things to look diferent to the 60's show thats all .

I'm prepared for change and welcome it

I know some fans will bring out the cannons on paramount and JJ's office if the blue button is red , but i dont really care that much

As long as the story is Trek the Ent could be pink with blue ribbons for all i care

Maybe he could make a cameo appearance as young Kirk's grandfather?

I have a solution that might be a compromise. At the end of the movie, the Shat should give a voiceover as the Enterprise sails off on her way.

I believe you may have heard it before....

"Space, The Final Frontier. These are the voyages......"

The role of Captain Kirk belongs to Chris Pine now. IF anyone is to do the classic V/O, it should be him.

Give this new version of the Trek reality a chance!

If he doesn't want a Cameo, he doesn't want a cameo.
But then he has to be quiet, coz he said not to it!

STXI is in opposite to STIII not about reviving Spock or Kirk, so there isn't any way to get him back logically.
