I'm hopeful that Star Trek will make enough money at the box office to warrent more films in the series. What do you think of the competition?
05.01.09: X-men Origins: Wolverine The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past 05.08.09: STAR TREK Next Day Air My Life in Ruins Wild Child 05.15.19 Angels & Demons Bruno The Brother's bloom 05.22.09 Terminator Salvation Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian 05.24.09 Up Drag Me To Hell If think Star Trek's competition for box office gold that month may come from these films,in this order- 1)Angels and Demons 2)Wolverine 3)Museum 4) Terminator ..... Two sequels and two prequels against a re-boot.

I have hopes for Wolverine, but it seems possibly hokey by the looks of the trailer. Likewise, Angels and Demons will pull a draw, but not a huge one.
It all rests on Terminator IMHO. If it's really good, then it beats Star Trek. If it is mediocre to good and Trek has a good story, Trek can win the title fight. Ultimately, it all rests on the script/story. We know the effects/action will be cool, but that only goes so far.

Unfortunately, Trek has one thing none of the other films has...a stigma attached to its name. The marketing team has a huge challenge in stripping away that stigma.

Isn't Watchmen out in May as well? I agree that there's some stiff competition out there. But thankfully, it's not like people are gonna be forced to see only one movie in the entire month. Indeed, having a range of sci-fi and fantasy might put people in the mood for some Trekkin'.
I still feel it was unwise for them to move Trek back to May in order to 'avoid competition', though, since quite the opposite has happened.

*What do you think of the competition? *
05.01.09: X-men Origins: Wolverine Maybe. Possibly. The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past Ummm wow. This title alone makes men quiver in fear and I assume enhances the ability of the super-evil-eye in women. 05.08.09: Next Day Air Yeah. Not. My Life in Ruins Most likely not. Wild Child Might strike a chord in teens for the title alone. 05.15.19 Angels & Demons Dunno. Probably not. Bruno Who? The Brother's bloom The Orlando Bloom fans will flock to it because of the title. 05.22.09 Terminator Salvation Maybe. Possibly. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian Kid fare. So yeah. 05.24.09 Up Down. Drag Me To Hell Sequel to The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past already? Title might spark some interest in horror fans. Star Trek looks like it could trounce most if not all of these.

Also, Terminator has a TV series that is not doing well and Salvation is directed by McG who's X-Men III was the weakest in the series so far. What stigma is attached to Star Trek? Batman had one that was broken so what makes you think this Star Trek can't do what Batman Begins did? I can't see Wolverine doing well unless Watchmen breaks the "Stigma" comic book films are starting to get. It will be compared to "The Dark Knight" as well so it better be pretty damn good. Wolverine is about the team Alpha Flight so "X-men" doesn't belong in the title.

The only movie I think will be able to compete will Star Trek in May is Wolverine.

The big killers are going to be Wolverine and Terminator. Wolverine is probably the most popular X-Men character; fortunate that it comes a week earlier. That gives it a whole week to calm down at the box office before Trek hits and has to draw some of that enthusiasm to itself. Terminator is coming two weeks after Trek, so it shouldn't put too much of a premature end to Trek's potential fervor. All in all, these two shouldn't be too big an issue, but they are the other two big names for May.

yep........I believe they need to step up on marketing NOW or else we're in bi trouble, because alot of my friends either havent seen it, or dont want to see it.They need to kind of " Force" them to see it. AKA- a superbowl appearence would be fantastic!
