Default Something really small you liked or hated in the trailer.

The trailer talk had pretty much been done to death. So, I was wondering if there was something very minuscule or petty you saw in the trailer you thought was cool or stupid. For me-and I have no idea why-was when The Enterprise comes out of warp. As soon as they see the debris field Sulu starts jammin' on the computers. They could have just stared at the blue screen and the shot would have been over. But it was cool the way they all jump to business mode. Like I said, petty. But cool enough for me. Plus, I just like saying jammin'

The car stunt in the start of it... NOT because of stupid canon 'Kirk can't drive' issues... NOT cause it's an old car that far in the future that still works... NOT cause of the canyon that shouldn't be there... but just because... well, it's a friggin car stunt. WTF is futuristic about that... imagine that scene in Star Wars Episode One... cmoooon.

Kirk better have stolen that car out of a museum or something.

Anyways, something small, that I hated... there ya go.

One this is Earth. Star Wars has nothing to do with Earth. Also out of all the shows and movies I've seen (and I'm rewatching everything, not quite done yet) I don't remember what sort of transportation they used to get to and from places when they're just on earth. I'm talking about just going to Grandpa's house or something. I remember when I was a kid and read the novelization of Star Trek VI they actually mentioned something in the book about landcars (I think). I know it was something that gave me the impression that for leisure transportation, both air and land were used. But that's a book of course, not considered canon.

However, I didn't like that scene either. Not because of things you mentioned, but because it just seemed like I was getting a hearty serving of ham and cheese.

Something small I did like: People running around on the ship in the heat of suspense. And they were all running in different directions, all with purpose. This is very Star Trek. I remember watching all the movies and thinking to myself, "Where the crap is everyone going really? And did those guys just run into the room that's being sealed off?" Yeah, really I'm sure they all had their purpose, but that scene in the trailer was Star Trek all the way.

Cool: For me it was the line spoken by Pegg as Scotty. Regarding Trek secrecy Pegg said in an interview that he was not allowed to use the accent, it was not an impression of James Doohan and was Northwestern Scottish — just above Glasgow. So I felt we were being tossed a bone.

Stupid: Nothing at all.

My uncle has a country place, that no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm, before the motor law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes and hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire, where my white-haired uncle waits.

Jump to the ground
As the turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind,
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me, an old machine ---
For fifty-odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car
A brilliant red barchetta, from a better, vanished time
I fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime...

Wind in my hair ---
Shifting and drifting ---
Mechanical music ---
Adrenalin surge ---

Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware

Suddenly, ahead of me, across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air-car shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires, to run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley as another joins the chase

Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud
With fear and hope, Ive got a desperate plan

At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded
At the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle
At the fireside...

Dang bridge wasn't there.
Kirk and bridges...

I like the brief scene where we see Nero sitting in his seat holding his metal pole engaging his triple blades prior to killing Pike visiting him on his bridge (to buy time) after he drops Kirk Sulu and the reshirt off in the shuttle from the Enterprise to skydive to the drilling platform to disingage the romulan weapon.

I did not know that Pike gets killed by Nero - what a major spoiler!!

I do wonder how well maintained that Mustang must be, since it would need to be around 400 years old by the setting of the film, but it's far from a major gripe.

I like when the alarm sounds when the debris flares up and they run through the corridor, and for some reason I like the shot in the hangar with all the cadets lined up and a shuttle of transport flies over their heads. I like the moment when Spock beams down and the transporter effect clears - I don't know but that just so makes me think of TOS in that moment!

We don't know that. Speculation, fed into an overactive imagination.

It's a Corvette. 1966, for those scoring at home.

So you pretty much liked the whole thing?

I know, I was being facetious
