Thanks for the tip - I hadn't checked out that drop-down list before.

Here's the link with maybe the ability to list up to 1701 users on a page (though it still looks like it maxes out at 200, so I could be wrong), when the forums get busy:

If by "active users" you mean "users that browse the forum right now" there is a LED next to each user-name. For example in this post of mine, there is a LED next to my name. It shines a lighter green when I am online. When you hover the LED, it will also display in text <username> online/offline.
