Default If you put a 100 foot ship in orbit, could you see it from the Earth's surface?

The TOS Enterprise, according to the old books, was 947 feet long, almost a thousand feet. I've seen the shuttle go over, it's not anywhere near that big, but to the naked eye, it's just a fast moving, very bright light. If the TOS Enterprise was in Earths Orbit, as big as it is, could you make out it's shape from the ground?

P.S.: Title should read 1000, not 100. Sorry.

What was that episode (or movie?) where the ship was pointed out to someone on the ground? It was at night and the ship had to be in synchronous orbit because it didn't seem to be moving at all.

Definitely...

If you can see a lost astronaut tool bag from Earth you can also see a 100 foot space ship. The space Shuttle is 122 ft long and you can definitely see it from Earth.

I meant a thousand feet, Saq, not a hundred. It was a typo. I was wondering if you could see the shape of a TOS connie from orbit, instead of just a bright light, like the NASA space shuttle is.

It would depend...on what orbit it was in. The shuttle orbits very low...just above the atmosphere...200 to 385 miles up. I'd say no....you couldn't make out the ship's shape. Starships orbit in a parking orbit well above the atmosphere.

Would depend on the power of the telescope.
Naked eye, it's just another star.

That was First Contact, wasn't it? Someone (Geordie?) showing ZC the ship through a telescope?
