What would people want from a new Star Trek game?

I would like an updated version of Birth of the Federation, basically the same but with more options and a modern look.

Star Trek Online! But, I want it to be like the DnP RPGs, where you have to take some time to build your character, and then play them responsibly, without all the "1337" garbage. For once, I would like to play an MMO built around adults.

Bridge commander, one of if not the best star trek sim out there. The game has become what it is through the fans and its more than likely that a fan mod will be made of the movie.

Have you guys played Mass Effect? If you have, think of the game. Now strip away all the components that make up the Mass Effect universe, and replace it with Star Trek counterparts. Add ship to ship battles like... any of the ship battle games you consider good.

The result is a game where you play a starship captain with a ship and a crew, who go on an important mission (like a tv show season story arch), while at the same time finding side quests (regular tv episodes) that range from rescue missions, to solving disputes, to exploring a solar system for scientific research or anything else. You'd arrive at a solar system and run scans, beam down to planets and explore. Receive distress calls that lead to cool side quests.

Seriously, I played and loved Mass Effect while at the same time crying inside cause its mechanics would make the greatest Star Trek game ever.

I think thats the approach they are going for with star trek online. Though it would be good if there was a game which merged bridge commander, elite force and star trek away team in the style of 'Mass effect'.

Another Star Trek Conquest game, but with more races, more planets, more fleet
admirals to choose from, better weapons and better music. :P

Perhaps that's the approach they need to go for, but since Perpetual went out of the MMO business, we don't know who's picked it up, yet, so we can't say that's the approach they are going for, anymore. In truth, Perpetual was going to try and make the game as Trek as possible, but then they changed directions mid-stream and started to make it a WoW clone. Frankly, I'm glad they couldn't continue with the game, and I hope whomever's taking it over will put some brains into it and not make it either a casual economy or a WoW clone.

From what I saw from the MMO, I loved the uniforms. They were not simply colored differently, but they were functional too depending on what branch it was.

I've always wanted a new Star Trek series to move ahead into the future with a look like that. It seems so logical to move ahead and build on what has been done. I don't know why they insist on going back and tampering with a well established classic.
