I don't think it is a stretch. I had a similar thought in a recent thread and I think your theory is awesome!

I can't help but feel that JJ Abrams etc. al. has a surprise or two up their collective sleeves that will bring many of the snip-its we saw in the trailer together in a way that is pleasing to many (likely not all) of the long-time fans.

Speculation NOT SPOILER

This reminds me of that book "Killing Time" with the whole Second History project the Romulans cooked up.

That book was great.

Maybe... everything that Nero changes from what we've seen of the new E and bridge etc... maybe Nero's changes do alter history? Maybe his actions created the Trek we now know. Just a crazy thought... time travel makes my head hurt sometimes.

That would be interesting. What if the Enterprise we see in the full trailer, the one the film takes place on is destroyed by the end of the film and the Enterprise of TOS is being constructed at the end of the film. Sort of like Kirk getting the enterprise at the end of Trek IV. You expect something new but he gets a new enterprise of old design. It's possible and boy that'd be some pickup ending if this enterprise we see in the trailer is destroyed and Kirk and crew board an Enterprise of more TOS design at the end of the movie which may be shown under construction from the teaser trailer.

Interesting thought Omega!

It's possible, and at this point in the game, I certainly will no longer put anything past them, but I seriously doubt it.

I tend to think that they would still have to keep both Enterprises...
Any future movies will still have the JJ model, but the TOS version might be shown as a way of providing some finality to the TOS era and to show that the TOS universe has been restored, but we will never see it again.

If the new Enterprise is destroyed, it certainly stands to reason that they'd put out a rush job ship, but why name it Enterprise? Especially with no letter attached to it?

We have the IPrise which, lets be honest, is lightyears ahead of the TOSPrise, if the IPrise is destroyed, and we somehow transition into the TOSPrise, wouldn't it be NCC1701A?

It sounds VERY plausible. Remember Orci's article on temporal mechanics and how the universe always wants to realign and center itself. It makes sense, that at the end of the film we see the enterprise being refitted to the TOS TV series version. PS dont forget about the temporal accords and the starship relativity.

My earlier point was that I don't see this film leading directly to TOS, but Orci's comments certainly don't rule out that this series of films could lead into TOS in implication if not actual story.

It's certainly no guarantee, but it remains a possibility until we learn more.
