Remember the bridge of the original Battlestar Galactica c. 1978?

True. The Galactica was that way....Hmmmm...
maybe it's not so bad...but it seems like a step backwards nontheless.

Well, not just battle. OTOH, look at where the bridge is on a real world Navy vessel. Not saying carrying that tradition over to starships makes sense, just pointing out that that's probably where the design decision came from, naval tradition.

Oh I never said I liked it that way, just curious if anyone else remembered it.

Nevertheless you pointed out that the blast shield and command center configuration is absolutely ridiculous as I would have thought. You broke up a prevailing misconception.

Kelvin has a regristry in the 500's.
This is a very early ship. It's older than the USS Grissom at 638. Infact I could see this Kelvin ship being a ship constructed just after the Romulan War. Advanced at it's time. Quick to build, sturdy, effective and packing lots of weapons.

Whoever brought up the blast shield thing was actually bringing up an appropriate alternative. Quite Smart.

It seems kind of silly to have the senior officers with the most knowledge and experience the most vulnerable in battle. Although I don't think that they should be inside the ship, its much harder for evacuation purposes.

It is a bit of a conundrum.

I hate conundrums. It takes forever to break the seal on them, and then you look inside and, wouldn'tcha know it, no conuns. Open an oil drum, there ya go -- oil. Open a conundrum, not a single conun to be had. Hate those things.
