Default For the 1% of us who dared to believe...

...that the "ANBE" (After Nero Butterfly Effect) we guessed was the case of the ch-ch-ch-ch-changes, was indeed the case...

...that it was possible for canon and JJanon to co-exist peacefully...

...that man *could* fly...in a time travel vessel and mess with things...

Let us all give each other high-fives, handshakes and fists bumps on our tiny little peace (pun intended) of Trek real estate.

For sooth, we hath called it, and the calling was good!

Sorry, just wanted to enjoy a little brevity with the several of us who dared to dream.

We now return to the regularly scheduled programming.

This story could have been written without the need for time travel which the writers felt justified in using to create their own trek universe when all they had to tell us that it was a new take on trek and left it at that.

... and we'd be just as happy.

Agreed. I think.

I still say there better be some reason (a good one!) for why Spock has to go back if there is no "prime" timeline and there is no impact on the one he is coming from.

Ugh. I need another beer. (Sam Adams Holiday Porter)

And less confused.

I think the writers have just left that possibility - that time travel is the reason for things being different - as a kind of crutch for the more... determined fans. The kind of need an in-universe explanation for why the trim on Sulu's shirt has a different pattern. The sorts of fans who'd never be content with accepting a re-telling and re-imagining of the story.

For those people, who'd not be able to suspend disbelief in order to embrace a re-worked Star Trek, they can console themselves with the thought that "history was changed, so it's still part of the same universe". And then cry softly into their pillows, or something.

ouch, harsh...I would have preferd either a straight statement claiming a BSG style reboot, or a story within the "prime" trek universe without all this time travel nonsense.

What was the point of all this bandying about one way and the other.

I guess it's a matter of catering to all tastes. People can view it as a remake, reboot, adaptation, whatever - or an 'altered history' story that's directly integrated into the last four decades of stories (even though those four decades contain some wildly contradictory stuff already...)

The guys working on BSG should be approached to work on any new Star Trek series or the next movie, if there is one!

Their work is outstanding and very realistic.
