Default Tasha Yar

Has anyone ever noticed that in the episode Symbiosis, at the end of the episode when Crusher and Picard are walking out of the cargo bay, Just as the doors start to swoosh closed, one of the crew starts waving? I found out today that it is Tasha Yar. The thing is, Yar died in Skin of Evil, the episode before. The reason is while Symbosis was shown after Skin of Evil, it was actually filmed AFTER . Denise Crosby was telling everyone bye. Check it out, it's interesting.

I actually found it by accident. I was searching out the characters from my Wife's favorite Christmas movie, White Christmas. I finally made it to Denise's page and it was in trivia. On a sadder note, Denise's Dad committed suicide in 2001, and his brother committed suicide in the same manner in 89. What a sad family.

I remember noticing that the first time I saw the episode, but it was some time before I knew the reason for it.

It's really too bad that Denise decided that her character wasn't being developed properly, and wanted out... The writers didn't really get their footing until the first season was almost over. I wonder what they would have done with Yar, had they just gotten better earlier?

Just as an idle, wool-gatheirng thought: what if they had decided to expand on the relationship between her and Data... although it got off to a rocky start in "Naked Now"... it would have been interesting had they grown together in the long run...

Episodes where Tasha has to deal with crew discomfort over her physical relationship with him...

Data wondering what it would be like to be a father of a human being...

The breakups, the makeups...

It could have been ... intriuging!

I agree that she should have been a little patient with the writers. There were many other character facets that I would have liked to have seen developed sooner. I'm not so sure that I would have wanted to see Data become monogamous so quickly. The idea of him being in a relationship was explored in a later episode. By that time the writing had improved overall and that type of story was handled better than it would have been so early during the first season. JMHO

Rubbish character.

Had to be cut due to the fact that Worf was a perfectly suited and superior replacement.

Deanna Troi and Wesley should have been cut also in that first season.

Data should have been reassigned as "Science Officer" and La Forge transferred to Chief Engineer which would create an opening for the CONN position to be filled by a new female character.

I think they just started out with not enough stories for the fairly large cast they had. A lot of characters suffered in season 1, but I think if Crosby had had a little more patience she would have gotten more stories.
