I really hate to do this and participate in this nitpick session, but I gotta put it down. There's also the idea of the environment the interview took place in. Perhaps in the room Orci was being interviewed in there were two lights.

Jesus... I can't believe I just did that, I'm gonna go stick soap in my mouth.

I reference that episode a lot. I even did at the experience once! It got a laugh from everyone but my wife who looked me at strangely.

Yes my friends... I wish to welcome you all to the Church of the Everlasting Trek Canon. Only true Trek believers will be enlightened and become the elite Purist. (Not to mention you get a nifty Vulcan bathrobe) Non-believers will be made to wear red shirts and ousted from our ranks..(Which means we'll phaser them down before the make it back to thier cars) C'mon JUST GO SEE THE MOVIE AND ENJOY!!!!!

Again...I don't think any of these issues are going to stop me from shelling out the dough to go see the movie. I may or may not like what I see but I'll still go...I'll still buy the DVD.

Come on people. Why the crap are we treating this like the next presidential election?

I can see hate ads now:

"J. J. Abrams.

Abrams said this movie is not going to be for Trek fans.

Abrams apparently thinks Star Trek canon is not important.

Abrams made radical changes to what is supposed to be the first Enterprise.

Abrams.

Do we really need such radical views on a new Star Trek project?

I'm Mr. Purist Trekkie and I approve this message."

CUT IT OUT! IT'S JUST A MOVIE!!!!
I can absolutely see that.....

That's how I knew Orci wasn't as advertised.
There were 4 lights, the Cardassian wanted him to say there were 5.

What Orci said was "We were used to saying we had only seen four lights instead of three lights." as MigueldaRican saysm perhaps this is a double reference to the episode and to the number of lights in the room at the time.

I can't imagine why any Trek fan reading this interview would still be worried.

Again, people seem to want Orci to spill the entire pot of beans in order for an interview to have any 'validity' -- a ridiculous, ill-conceived demand considering how far out the film release still is.

A point that gets missed while people demand spoilers and specifics is when Orci gets asked a straightforward question like the one about building the Enterprise, and he replies directly there ARE reasons for such events in his script. Of course he's not going to lay them all out for us in December, and for a very good reason.

Some fans have a bad habit of assuming changes are random or ill-conceived simply because they don't know the reason for them. It's a bit like arguing "Since I don't know how to juggle, you can't possible juggle either."

And like juggling, you don't get it... right up until the point you do, then it seems very obvious.
