I am looking forward the the The Typhon Pact books, which are supposed to follow up Destiny.

I started reading this set of books but the fact that it violates certain things in Countdown renders it non-canon based on Countdown being considered cannon due to being written by some of the creators of the new movie. Unlike NF I can't forgive the non-cannon nature of the project by virtue of it being all that interesting because it's not that interesting if it isn't officially what happens to everyone after the shows end

Countdown has Data revived and acting as Captain of the Enteprise with Picard retired and acting as an Ambasaddor whereas in Destiny he's dead, Worf is Numer One and Picard is still Captain. So far as I can see there's a gap of about 3 years between the events of Destiny and those of Countdown so some of this stuff can happen in the interval but if Data's alive why would anybody act like he's dead

I read summaries but if you're willing to give me info about I'd be interested in hearing because as I said the book isn't bad it just far less engaging if the possibility exists that it's not cannon. Anyway Countdown is soldout at every comic store I visit and I'm not an E-bay sort of guy

I Destiny takes place in 2381 and Countdown takes place in 2387. The folks at Pocket Books are undecided as to whether they should follow the future established in Countdown, but they've got plenty of time to tell their own stories before any of that happens...

One reason why the novels might ignore Countdown is because that future has more or less already been written by the folks at Star Trek: Online. IIRC, the new Starfleet uniforms seen in Countdown originated there...

Just visited the site you mentioned and it seems pretty interesting but I can see why writers would be hesitant to write books set in the universe they've crafted
