Well we could have seen Carol in Generations but they gave us Antonia... Why?

Possibly for the same reason they cut her out of Search For Spock, the actress declined the opportunity to continue playing the role.

Also, Carol was "the past".....Antonio was presented as a woman Kirk found after the events of the first 6 movies.

True but as for the actress.. we hear a slightly muffled voice and see her on the hilltop from a good ways away... If he had said it was Carol we couldn't tell otherwise.

So I guess I mean that if it had been someone the audience already knew, we could empathize with his desire to stay and make it right rather than having more a feeling of "Hurry up will ya?"

Definetly someone else. Also I agree with you about Carol Marcus, she would have been later by seeing the age of David. I forget the name of his girlfriend in Generations, but she was indian, I think.

I personally think she was more than that.

Maybe they recasted when they couldn't get her.

But if you're afraid you're going to screw up canon then there nothing safer than just doing something new.
Bibi Beesh the actress who played Carol Marcus, died in the late 80s or early 90s of lung cancer. It is ironic that David Marcus actor, Merritt Butrick, is also dead.

Bibi Beesh passed away on September 7, 1996, one day before the Star Trek 30th Anniversary

Again...I think Antonia was showing us that Kirk had moved forward for a moment....that he'd seen another future.

Carol was the past.

Funny thing is, fanon made Carol Marcus the little blond lab tech.
This has never been stated as canon. Canonistas should know better. Or not.

The only one ever seen who Kirk had truly deep feelings for and seemingly genuine regret of not marrying was Ruth; also a blond. Who's to say she wasn't the lab tech? Especially since Carol wasn't established until the movies.

Fans made the leap of logic that Carol must be the lab tech because they love to tie things neatly into bows as a present.

Canon is such a funny, floppy, fickle bird.
People make of it what they will, much like a fallow field.

Your canon lesson is hereby ended.
