Apparently the Trek Community loved Stuart Baird before Nemesis came out. just read this chat transcript! Located on startrek.com's Nemesis page.

Let's hope we don't say the same thing about J.J. Abrams a year from now! Just kidding, even at its worse I don't think this new movie could touch Nemesis. But no doubt, they never knew what was about to happen for sure!

agreed. Star Trek Has Always Had The Most Sucess In Kirk. In Mvies, especially. And With Nimoy, from the original, that gives them more luck!

Yeah and a better track record to, with the people involved. Baird is a great editor, but hadn't done that much directing and Nemesis had so many problems, but going back to what works, the original, is certainly a good move after what Nemesis did to TNG.

Did you see Casino Royale, Baird edited that, the guy's a great action editor.
