I look at it this way. If a tiger or a pack of wolves can kill and eat an antelope or a buffalo and eat it, I can kill a rabbit or a deer and eat it. Seeing as how I have no natural claws or fangs to speak of and am basically a giant, hairy embryo, I have to invent and discover things to do it with. In my case, John Moses Browning and Oliver M. Winchester already did that for me. Thank's guys, the animals taste great!

Yeah, same here, minus the 'vegetarian' part.

I eat meat. I have never gone hunting, but would like to in the future. I have not been fortunate enough to draw a license for a few years (lottery style in New Mexico)

This is an interested thread. The side topics are interesting. The people that don't like hunting, yet eat meat and think that somehow that is not in conflict. The meat from wild game IS more natural than indistrial meat, I am glad someone mentioned that.

I think Bow hunting is the best form of man-vs-animal there is. Do these people that have "issues" with it realize how difficult it is to stalk an animal that has much better hearing and smell than you? I give all the props in the world to the guys (and gals) that can actually score a kill with a bow. It may seem less humane to kill with a bow, but in reality it is no different from using a rifle when it comes to how humane it is. In either case, if the hunter fails to hit a kill shot the first time, the animal will suffer, sometimes run away never to be found. That is sad and unfortunate, but it does happen. That is not to say that there have not been "bad" slaughters from time to time. I live in area where people own cattle, sheep, pigs, etc.. and they do slaughter every year in order to stuff their freezers. I have seen people not make a good kill shot and the animal suffers until a second shot kills it. It is hard to watch, and I can see how some vegetarians justify there belief. But I am a carnivore and shake it off rather easy. There is nothing like fresh meat!

If bigfoot does exist, and I am on the fence when it comes to that issue, then I say we should NOT hunt it. Why? Because it is a very rare species if it does exist. Kind of falls under the ban on hunting endangered species.

Great post MrQ. It is interesting to see other topics coming out of this thread.

I myself have never hunted, I don't have any interest in hunting either, but as Horatio pointed out, it is much more humane than the meat industry.

Also as Monsieurhood said, we don't have any fangs, claws and we are extremely weak and fragile next to most of the major predators of the animal kingdom. We have our intelligence and so we use guns or bows, but the ends are the same. Whether you go out into the woods yourself and hunt or order meat for dinner, the meat is getting there through slaughter of somesort. It doesn't bother me, it's who we are, unless you're a vegetarian, then you're slaughtering vegetable!

One thing that does bother me is veal. I suppose it's no different than any other slaughtered animal but it seems more vicious.

White Tiger, that's what came to mind when I read this. Many parts of Asia they still hunt the White Tiger and it is near extinction.

What's the deal with Veal? Isn't Veal just a young cow? Is the method for slaughter any different from an adult? Or is it the "cute" factor? It's hard for people to visualize killing something "cute".

Is this practice at least illegal? That really sucks. Do people eat the tigers or is it just to have a rare trophy?
