I disagree that the only hot male on the original show was Shatner...Nimoy redefined "sexy" and continues to be the standard by which I judge men. Sadly, Quinto just doesn't measure up. As others have noted, he has a sort of "sweet" quality which is pretty much the antithesis of "hot" in my book.
Sorta like a shaven yak.

Sorry, you'd have had to be around another forum years ago to get the reference.

I don't get that Nimoy or his Spock character was or is sexy, but I will say everyone has their own tastes for sure. Just not my type, doesn't mean not anyone else's.

Well being a guy myself I find it hard to say fully, but it seems to me Shatner pulled off more of a 'rough n tough' sorta look while still being good looking.... Pine is more of a 'metrosexual' sorta look while also being kinda bad a$$... I mean that in a good way! I must say though, I'd rather take orders from original Kirk than new Kirk... Shatner seems to me to portray authority very well in his delivery of the character... though I have not seen Pine yet, maybe he'll pull that off well also... but I doubt it... there can be only one!... Kirk.

As for Spock, maybe he seems more 'sexy' cause of his cool 'non-emo' type of ways. Very strong and hard to get to... You can't bring him down easily... but if you do you better watch out... kinda thing... lol

Shatner had a very commanding, confident presence on film and at the time was considered very handsome. I worry about the idea of looks over these other traits. Hopefully, Pine can pull off both--I'm sure he can or JJ wouldn't have picked him . . I hope.

When they first announced that Karl Urban would be playing McCoy, I was awfully surprised - how could someone that big and buff and, frankly, hot play the demure and craggy Doctor? But he seems like a good fit for the role now, even if I'll inevitably have unbidden Éomer flashbacks from time to time...

And it doesn't hurt that his Scots' accent is actually real.
Amen to that... I've always LOVED him as Carson, and not only for his good looks. And I'm no specialist of the Scottish accent but seems to me like he had it dead-on, especially since his parents are Scots.

You're right, it's all a matter of taste. But it is because of Spock that I discovered very early on in my childhood that intelligence is so damn sexy... LOL! And there's also that unattainable and mysterious aspect of his personality which I find very attractive. I don't know how to explain it but it does have a great pull on me.

Oh, and to all the 'I'm a guy' people! Yeah, it must be hard not to know what good looking is. How do you know when you look good?I feel bad for your girlfriends. And a bit of advice, just becasue you can see beauty in someone else doesn't mean you want to have sex with them. I find a multitude of woman immeasurably beautiful, but that doesn't mean I want to bed them. But then again, I am comfortable in who I am. You should try it, your women will love you more.
