Unfortunatly this movie will have to cut through the perception that it is another geek film and I think the new trailer is a great start.
Agreed!

I guess you could call me one of those fans who got into Star Trek because of someone else. I started watching Voyager in the 6 or 7 season or so and haven't stopped watching Trek since. Now my 8 year old sister is into it as well. Ask her what her favorite show is and she'll say Voyager.

Opening the trailer with a car chase with a modern vehicle grabs the mainstream audience from the start, and then tells them it is star trek. They did their homework, and realised they need the mainstream, not just the trekkies.

I just think that the title could repulse most non-fans...

If this movie does do well with the general public, I do hope they finally learn 2 things...

1. It is Star Trek not Star Track, and

2. It is Mr. Spock not Dr. Spock

The new movie IS Trek! You may not like what you have seen and read about it, but it IS Trek, just not the Trek we are used to. Wait to judge the movie AFTER you have seen it. If you boycott, you'll be one of the dumbest "fans" out there.

Why should I spend money on something that, based on what I've seen and read, I won't like? If I did that, then I'd be one of the dumbest "fans" out there. That is I'd just be another sheep willing to spend money on anything simply because of the name on the label and not the quality (or lack thereof) of the content.

The movie is advertised as being the origin story behind TOS. But from what I've seen, read and watched so far, that doesn't seem to be the case. Thus it's not Trek. In my opinion.

I won't "boycott" it, but, based on all the information I have to date, I won't pay to see it either. That is unless some new information arises to change my mind.

Not paying to watch it IS boycotting it. After it is released on DVD is irrelavant. How can you determine the true quality of this movie if you don't watch it?

Where did all these guys get their crystal balls from? I need one. I really love to see things that haven't happened yet.
