Oh yeah, I hope he kept Sulu's plant that looked oddly like a hand in a glove. This movie would be unacceptable with out that.

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis would have mirrored that philosophy from Star Trek. Everyone knows Star Trek to be "exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new civilizations." It says it in the opening titles!

As for my choice of canon...I really don't know what I couldn't live without. Maybe i'll know when it doesn't show up in the movie.

The movie will be a travesty unless there are at least three planets that are perfect Earth parallels! with no rational explanation except that "aliens did it..."

:edit: won't it technically be a "canon violation" if Uhura gets a first name? That's one "discrepancy" I wouldn't mind in the least.

As for the rest... as long as the lead characters and the general geography and timeline remain the same, I'll be a happy chap. Remaining consistent with canon is certainly a good objective, but not the sillier, flimsier aspects of "canon" that we're better off discarding...

I wonder if there might be some Evil Alien Nazis involved.

"He's Dead, Jim!", "You canna change the laws of physics!", "Fascinating", "It's life Jim, but not as we know it.", "Hailing frequencies open", "Ahead, warp factor (insert number from 1-9 here.)", "It's a Russian inwention, Captain.", and last but not least. "Now I know why it's called "She"." and "IT"S MY SHIP!". (Kirk MUST care more about the Enterprise than absolutely anything under the sun.)

Based on who posted this thread, he wants to insult people that don't hold his opionion on what the essense of Star Trek is. He will go through and tell anyone who is ok with a change that they are not really a fan. Also, look at his signature quote...

Thank you, yes, I'm fascinating. But neither myself nor my motives are the topic of the thread. Ah, yes... the topic.

There are a lot of things thrown out that I'd rather had been kept. But one part of canon I really hope was kept is the relationship between Spock's parents. Was a very understated and therefore even more impressive relationship.
