It's not a canyon, or result of a weapon, it's a quarry. It's hard to tell from the youtube trailer, but it is extremely obvious in a theater if you know what quarries look like

We know....we're just trying to have the same kind of fun that an old friend of this forum would have had with it....

The thing I can't get my head around is why not build the Enterprise up here in Canada? I'm from Saskatchewan where the whole province is just one wheat field. They'd have ALLL the room in the world. Then again, it would probably cost more up here. Hahaha!

They could build it in Broken Bow, OK, as a historical tribute.

Originally the Kirks lived in California, and moved to Iowa to punish James after he killed the `vette!

Well as long as they didn't kill Chancellor Bismarck.

Where did they shoot that scene? Probably that's the place it also plays inside of Star Trek's story.

Not necessarily. We know Kirk's father was in Starfleet, so they could just be like modern day military and move around a lot. I live in a military town and see plates from all over the country, and even a few from oversees.

After looking at the HD trailer, What I thought was a canyon is a deep chasm of a quarry. You can tell that it is, because of the way the rocks are "chisled" That's probably where they quarried the materials for those gigantic buildings in the distance, I dunno, just a guess.
