I'm afraid Optimism in the face so many failures would not be relatisic. I await to be pleased. I just don't believe in likely what I'm given. I tend to have standards. If that is perceived as negative...then so be it.

And your saying us fans that are more open minded don't have standards? Yes, you are negative more than positive. From all the posts I have read of yours, you dislike more about Trek in all it's incarnations than you have liked. When someone suggests you try to increase turn out for this movie you say "I can not endorse..." we're talking about the new Trek movie and you can't endorse it? Sure, you and I may be disappointed by some of what we see, but don't take your "standards" too seriously. It's TV and movies in the end, no matter how you look at it

I think the best way to encourage the 'uninitiated' would be to distance this movie from the more recent and underwhelming Trek incarnations.
"It's basically going back to the start, with the original characters and none of the convoluted back-story or technobabble. Basically a fresh start to make it interesting and original again." That's a little unfairly harsh on the modern shows and movies, but it might be a necessary exaggeration to get around the tainted reputation Star Trek's gained from mainstream viewers.

Well I don't pay much attention to the naysayers. If folks want to find what not to like
or squash to opportunity for more things Trek, I imagine that is their prerogative. It doesn't make sense to me, but one thing I have learned over the years is you cant change a persons predispositions. Only they can. I try to focus on what I like and keep an open minded approach. But when I saw that trailer I became infused with a level of excitement I have not had for Trek in a long long time. |

Leave Saq alone :P
Endorsing something you haven't seen or really know anything about, just because it's got a certain brand name on it, is the second-worst kind of fanboyism. Saquist's position makes total sense. I'm OPTIMISTIC about the film, but I wouldn't recommend anyone see it until a) I've seen it and b) liked it. Also, that way I get to be the first of everyone I know to see it ![]() I think the best thing to do to promote the film is to let the marketing guys at Paramount promote the film. They're really, really good at it -- see how they've whipped us all into a frenzy over it, and the pretty uniform reaction of non-Trek fans to the trailer(usually along the lines of "Ooo, I wanna see that"). We wild-eyed Trek-types ranting for 6 months might just do more harm than good ![]() |

Sure everyone is entitled to their opinion without a doubt. I personally am not taking issue with Saq or others. I simply have a different approach and feelings about the movie based upon my own perceptions and what I have seen, read, and feel.
I endorse what I have seen up to now only and that view has shifted from fear and skepticism to genuine excitement and hope. I will be supporting this film going forward fully, until I have reason to do otherwise. If when I see that actual movie I feel it sucks that will be my opinion at that point. Very much like Nemesis. In that buildup I had reservations but an open mind and I supported it, until I saw the actual poop that was presented, then I expressed my displeasure. |

The one thing the trailer tells me is that Star Trek is finally getting what it should have had in previous feature films: a big-budget, epic treatment. |

I think the new Trek will be so great it won't need the 'endorsement' of die-hard ST canon Fans - and I further predict those fans will be become a minority - so much so that no one will give a shiznit whether they, ahem, 'endorse' the movie or not.
If I'm wrong - I'll gladly admit it. If I'm right - y'all won't hear the end of it. ![]()
