I don't see Kirk as the type to drink and drive. But I can see the BK.

Good point. Although the Miranda-class comes chronologically after the Constitution, its kinda her little sister. And anything going into the direction of the Daedalus-class would have looked quite odd with a spherical primary hull.

True, but it also works as intermediate step between NX-01 and Constitution:
NX: only saucer, Kelvin: Saucer + small secondary hull above the saucer, Constitution: saucer + big secondary hull beneath the saucer
