I gotta say, I do like Tomcat's version better than the original XI design. But it still isn't right enough for me, and it never will be. I could have accepted changes, subtle changes like outer hull texture and phaser and photon emplacements, I could even have stood the bay windows. But to scrap the cylindrical engines and morph the secondary hull into something resembling taffy, is just too much. They did not have to do this, and they shouldn't have. It's too much change, and not for the better. I too am looking at this film as a parallel universe or to put it in comic book terms, an "elseworlds" type story, because it doesn't take place in the Star Trek Universe I know, at all.
