Default The Rocky Horror Picture Show

So it's 1 AM here in NY and I'm still in my office typing up stress echocardiograms, playing with one of my phasers, and listening to loud rock music shuffled on my laptop when all of a sudden, some of my Rocky Horror soundtrack comes on. So I'm thinking that amongst this group there have got to be some other fans. Any good stories/memories?

I was a "virgin" until college but I picked up on the idea pretty quickly. I remember the night after I took the MCAT exam in my junior year, a bunch of us decided to see the midnight show in Cambridge. I think I remember almost getting arrested in Harvard Square before the show, as I was dancing on a picnic table (drinking while underage) and a police car drove into the square and shined a spotlight on me. I guess they didn't think I was worth it but I felt like I was onstage. We saw the show at midnight and then I crashed on the floor of some (female) friends at Boston U (I was snuck into the female dorm) but I think I was too destroyed to do anything but sleep it off. I rode the commuter rail train back to Brandeis the next morning but not before finding a rare copy of FOXTROT, one of the few GENESIS albums I didn't have yet, at a record store near North Station. I listened to it on my SONY Walkman (now I'm really dating myself) as I rode back to my campus. Nice memory.

Then there was another time we went out to see the show en masse- I went together with one girl and I think I came back home with a different one! The funniest things happened at those nidnight shows!

So....?

I'm a fan...I lost my cherry at a CAMPUS screening at UCSD, but did go to many viewings at the local art house later.

There is very little more compelling that "TIME WARP" for "get up and dance" as far as I'm concerned.

Ah, good times... though it seems like 100 years ago!

(Ok, everyone get your piece of bread ready)

A toast -- to absent friends!

vuedoc, you conveyed a hand phaser into the workplace? Someone's gonna hear about that.

I missed that whole era but I heard theaters rocked back then. A shame to miss a part of history.

It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do the Time Warp again!

If you're ever in Toronto there is a rep theater called Bloor Cinema that plays the Rocky Horror Picture Show the last Friday of every month at 11:30pm. They also do a special Halloween screening every year. They have live actors and the audience is encouraged to participate. I have never been but there is always a line the last Friday of the month outside the theater and they have been doing this for years now.
