Default theory of why kirk crawls out of an esc pod

The enterprise was boarded maybe and some of the crue abandoned ship?
Kirk was instructed to go on a mission on the ice planet?
Part of the enterprise destroyed?
Your thoughts

Maybe, looks like some sort of escape pod. Looks like he crash landed on Hoth

Kirk will most likely have to face this;

......in a battle to the death. How do you think he defeated the Gorn? Practise of course.

I'm sticking with he's wearing black because he has been "busted" down in rank. I imagine this escape pod has something to do with it. Kirk acting all rouge out on his own and taking high risks? Sounds like Kirk to me.

I think the black might just be the undershirt, or indicate that he is a captain in training.

I think its part of his Kobayashi maru test, my theory is the test is a mutiny, an obvious no win scenario and after fighting off his crew he manages to get in an escape pod. This is how he cheats, leaving the ship is against the rules (speculation).Perhaps he gets some inside info from elder Spock. Before the test he disables the pod locks. While on the ice planet he discovers the plot for the rest of the movie and since hes already there this crew works together to the missions conclusion elegidely.

Now this theory pre determines that this test is still conducted on a star ship rather than a simulator. Like they used the star ships in the episode: Ultimate Computer.

Now after all this goes on, Starefleet endoctirnates a new directive to have all Kobayashi Marus done in simulators because of the ruckus Kirk brought on.

Oh the black shirt, to me its obvious its a cadet captain shirt. Hes in a test, where they try to make the rest of the surroundings normal, hence the normal uniforms on everyone else. Then he just wears it from there.

Im Probably way off....

I think Kirk is on a real mission. He is wearing black because it is the color for secret or "black" ops, just like we have seen TNG characters wear in the past. I think the Enterprise is NOT damaged to the point which would require escape pods to be used, rather I believe the escape pod was used to avoid detection. The Enterprise probably sets up some sort of diversion, then sends the pod in order for Kirk to begin his secret mission. The ice we see has been rumored to be the Klingon prison moon, but I doubt this is the case because I would hope that Kirk would have worn warmer clothing knowing where he was headed!

Default it's only my opinion but...

Kirk is on a real mission to rescue Captain Pike on Rura Penthe. That's why Spocks threatened him with physical violence. We all know Spock is loyal to Captain Pike!

all good ideas ..cant wait to have it all answered. I am hoping when it comes close and any real plot spoilers come out (if they do) that I can resist the temptation and see it unfold for the first time at time of the flick itself.
