The credits in the special editions of the LotR trilogy includes a list of the first couple of thousand people to join the official fan club, so such a tribute is not entirely unprecedented

As for visiting the forum itself... I'm not sure. It could be 'politically' risky, in a way. I mean, for the film's cast or crew to associate themselves with a forum where there're some rather strong opinions on controversial matters. For instance, the "William Shatner as Kirk" debate.
