Kirk's father is the first officer on the Kelvin, so the timeframe should not be so hard to figure out ... and while certain ideas about the Earth-Romulan War might be incooperated into the conflict, it will not be labeled thus.

Whatever the class - I found it interesting that they seemed to have mostly borrowed from TOS-era designed Starship style (as far as primary saucer), even though it's 100 years older than TOS Enterprise.

Just my 2 quatloos.

The USS Kelvin
The Kelvin is a Federation starship from a generation before the Enterprise and smaller than the Enterprise. It is of a new ship class never seen before. The ship is commanded by Captain Robau (Faran Tahir) with George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth) as first officer. Locations seen on the ship include the bridge (which reflects an earlier design than the Enterprise and is a lot ‘busier’), corridors, sickbay and engineering.

There is insufficient data for a meaningful answer.

If Kirk's dad is the first officer, then it'll have to be a whole lot less than 100 years - though the ship could easily be decades older than her crew.
