The black shirt Kirk has on is standard for an academy cadet, or like someone said, it very well could be an away mission attire. Kirk undoes his uniform in the movies, especially TWOK because I thought he was hot. Thats what I always thought.

I'm sure lots of folks thought Kirk was hot. (sorry I had to)

Remember though, we have no idea as the to chronology of these 2 pics of Kirk in Black. Is he just returning from the "pod" or is he on his way off the ship. Then again, it seems his hand is not injured in the "group shot" so maybe he does go through a significant portion of the movie not wearing gold.

Note: Kirk's black shirt bears the emblem, which makes it more likely his uniform not an undershirt which is less like to have the emblem on it.

Not that I'm complaining! Pine looks fine in black.
