I remember reading that Abrams was going to use models also, a mix of CGI and model. Hope he does go with that. So far the Kelvin shots look good to me, they look tangible, unlike the new starwars trilogy, too much CGI.

Maybe whent he Kelvin went to be refitted the 0 was added because NCC-1000 was being completed, and the Stargfleet Beuracrats being stupid as always to ad an extra 0 to all the previous ship registries to make them, 'easier' to recognise. Adding numbers to a vehicle after a refit also happens, especailly on trains.

(Bare in mind the Kelvin was the man in the hatch in Lost).
