Well, they are trying to get new people to watch as well.

If they make the movie to complicated, noobs will be turned off by it.

Geez, I remember watch The Matrix Reloaded... I had to watch that movie 3 times to even begin to understand what the heck they were saying.

I think the chance of the movie being to complicated is much higher, when you have sth. like a dozen different timelines, and alternates, and different times in general...and so on....don´t you think?

This rumor could actully get me to drop my "no reboot" defenses so to speak.... If it is true and all turns out well at the end, then it wouldnt really be treading on TOS at all. However, if all is fixed at the end, that wouldnt leave much room for sequels with the new cast.

Would the casual or non-trek fan understand something like this? To me...something like this would be even more "cerebral" than "The Cage" supposedly was. It wasnt cerebral t all for me...but to a non sci-fi/trek fan, it might confuse them. Therefore I hope they dont dumb it down too much as Trek is not about simplification in orer to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Sounds good... can't believe I have to wait 10 months before I get to see it.

Yeah, not fair to have to wait that long. But just think, A year ago, the movie was 2 years away.

Half Way there

And they say they want the movie to appeal to non-fans? Doesn't sound like it will...

yeah...I'm a Trek fan and it sounds complicated...though understandable. I hope they dont have it too dumbed down or too much on screen exposition (like Spock doing a log entry every time he jumps through time)...as that would be too simple.

I'm kinda bummed about these rumors. I think the time travel/alt. Universe has been done to death. But it has to hold some weight since Nemoy is in it. I was hoping for a soild chase type story ala TWOK....

I think if they are trying to revitalize the franchise, the key is to bring everything back to basics, rather than turn the world upside down... do fans really want to see something take place inside an alternate reality (Aside from the Mirror universe, of course.)

Maybe some do, but it seems the general idea of this film is to refresh the franchise, and gain a new audience... I doubt they could accomplish this goal by employing this rumored story line... this strikes me as a story line that would be acceptable, only should it be done in a later chapter, and then, only if done correctly, which would no doubt still face great adversity.
