Default Why "The Next Generation" is the best!!!

To be honest, my favorite Star Trek series wasn't even a real series: the first three classic trek movies were, to me, purely iconic, and the best Star Trek stories ever told. The refit Enterprise, Admiral Kirk, and everything in between, was my absolute favorite. HOWEVER, I don't like TOS best as far as television series' go; the TOS ship and crew were too big and epic for the small screen. Therefore, in my opinion, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION was the epitome of a Star Trek TV Show. And, to be honest, I think it was Gene's REAL vision of Star Trek, or at least as close as we'll ever get to it.

So, to all the fans of the 24th Century Enterprise, what was it that made TNG the best Star Trek television series? What do YOU guys think?

Great stories, great character development, real chemistry between the actors, great effects. Remember, TNG is the highest rated first run syndicated show in history, and I remember TNG's last episode got a lot of hype. TNG was more than good Trek... it was actually good TV. It doesn't look dated, at least to me..

Patrick Stewart, classically trained theatre actor, really from there need I say more?

The Next Generation had the best characters, and the best stories. Data and Worf and Picard are some of the best characters in all of Star Trek!

The characters where okay, I think. Not as good as the original characters, but in difference to TOS the authors made better use of them.

The scripts where okay in season one and two and grew in quality throughout the show and, most important, stayed on a high level.

The design of the 1701-D was just fantastic and so where the sets and the make up and the props. The uniforms looked a bit strange though, I know no non-fan who likes them.

And then lets not forget the music: Just great!

I don't know why it's so good.
It's good question.
The Characters were okay the acting went from bad to good over time.
It must have been the stories.

The story plots were much better than TOS's. Not to mention that everything looked more realistic.

For me The Next Gen was my first real taste of Star Trek. I had seen a few TOS episodes here and there, but TNG was the first Trek I followed as the new episodes were coming out. I think alot of the first season of TNG tried too hard to emulate the feel of TOS. For that reason it seemed hokey during season 1. After that it got much better.

I grew up with TNG so my view on it may be a bit skewed. Had I grown up with TOS and then this new Next Generation show came along, I might feel differently, but for me it is TNG. I thought it was great all the way around, wonderful concepts, great characters, great acting, great writing, the look of the show was fantastic. Sure, like all shows they had absolute bombs as episodes occasionally but over all it was my favorite Trek and I think the best.
