Yeah...I don't recall any books in the "I had to read this" way.....I loved reading everything so nothing ever felt like an assignment...also, somewhere in the early 80's things got a bit fuzzy and I'm pretty sure there was data loss from the earlier decades.

I reckon I read all the Faraway Tree books so many times that I could have recited them off by heart.

I don't remember that I had to read anything as a child.

I recall we had a list of books to read from in 6th grade and I picked that one. I guess I was a geek even as a kid

I recall writing school reports on Bradbury's work, especially The Martian Chronicles. I actually met him once, briefly, quite a few years ago at some writing symposium event. Couldn't chat him up for long, but he was nice and friendly.

One of the best classes I had was a speed reading course, in which you could choose any novel (within reason), so I gravitated toward genre novels and 'fun' reads. That's also where I read Clarke's 2001 for the first time.

My Grandmother, God rest her magical, beautiful soul, used to read to me when i was young. I could already read myself, but it was just a thing we did together, and i LOVED it! Sometimes, we would switch chapters and I would read to her. We read:
1. Around the world in 80 days
2. The Swiss family Robinson
3. The casebook of Sherlock Holmes
4. Robinson Crusoe
5. The Virginian
6. 20,000 leagues under the sea

I wouldn't trade those memories for an extra year of life. What marvellous days those were for me. I miss you Grandma. And I miss your pancakes shaped like gingerbread men and smiley faces, and your chicken and dumplings, and your hot cups of Irish breakfast tea. I hope you're happy, wherever you are.
