I just hope we also will see some of those women who really learned acting instead of just making their make-up right.

As far as I can see JJA created in Lost and Alias a lot of emancipated, strong women. I especially want to see some of them, I really become sick of the male "toys" whose only achievement is having big breasts.

So are you saying that Uhura was a toy? From what I remember she was the first African American woman to have a commanding role in a TV series, even though she was communications officer, she had quite an influence on alot of women in general, moreso with African american women. Anyways, just thought i'd clear that one up.

No, but actually she hadn't a lot of screentime.

I am thinking of many movies and series nowadays. Some actress seem to be better models than really competent actors. Star Trek with 7of9 and T'Pol is only one aspect.

I can't imagine there's any undertone or inference, other than a fun nod to the original series.

Well since ENT we know that the female Orion slaves are these who actually control and suppress the male Orions, not the other way round, and only appear to be the weak gender for outsiders. It wouldn't be bad if they also would use that aspect.

But of course a few orion dancers are Ok, too.
I just want to have at least one of the main characters, e.g. Uhura, to be a strong, self-depending person and with a lot of screentime.

Based on the few things we know so far, Uhura will likely have a significant role, more than 'hailing frequencies open' and perhaps she even substitutes Scotty as 'Number 4'.
I doubt that we will see the Syndicate, the other woman cast as Orion is supposed to play a cadet. But if it is shortly portrayed, I hope they stick with canon, that it is a matriarchy.

Maybe an Orion as a background charater in a scene...
