I can definitely see Spock identifying himself to his younger self. I can also see his true identity to the rest of the crew being hidden. Being presented as a high ranking Vulcan ambassador or a family member.

Think of the interesting moments with Spock interacting with say Kirk at some point in the mission and Kirk questioning himself and making a comment to the elder Spock like " God how will history remember me if I fail on my first major mission, and Spock saying something like, "Captain Kirk, something I would describe as only illogical tells me your future with Starfleet will surpass even your own expectations, and what I have seen within you on this mission is something I have seen in only one other man I had the honor and privelge to serve with many years ago on a starship not unlike this one.

Kirk replies, This man you describe sounds like a great man, someone I can only aspire to be sir, and Spock with a rise of an eybrow, and says introspectively, " Aspire.....indeed...

Or perhaps-

Old Pappy Spock reveals all (or some) to Young Whipper-Snapper Spock, they have a great adventure (soon to be known as the greatest Trek story EVER) and in the end OPS, via mind-meld, tells YW-SS to 'Forget'.

It could happen.

Well both Spocks are probably the only characters who could keep the information to themselves for a lifetime, especially younger Spock. Old Spock would know that he could reveal the truth, because young Spock would understand the situation and not tell anyone for the rest of his life.

So, I think he could reveal at some point the truth.

Kev: good point above!

Zardoz: whether they view time travel as a closed loop or as a parallel universe, the result should be the same -- once Nimoy-Spock enters the time of Quinto-Spock, then anything going forward should remain consistent in Q-Spock's future.

Put it this way: we unknowingly 'change our own futures' all the time, as others change it for us too. But none of those actions make us forget the event which spurred the change (i.e. marrying your spouse changes your life, but by doing so you don't forget the wedding which changed it once the ceremony is over).

Hmmm I can buy that idea, but did the producers of the film?
