Shatner was given the opportunity to do a cameo.
Shatner said, he'd do no cameo.
Shatner didn't get the cameo, cause he didn't want it.
Shatner is not in the film.

I wouldn't worry, no-one will believe that until the film is seen. Might as well let it run til then. For me the only issue remains the amount being spent on it. I still think it could be very hard for the film to be a true financial success, even if it is actually a well done film.

If this film is successful, I'd expect at least one more feature film to be made. I don't think we'll see a new TREK TV series anytime soon, since Paramount will not want to develop competing stories within the franchise.

Optimal circumstance: three successful TREK movies and then a new series, perhaps.

Even if XI fails (and I myself do not think it will, quite the opposite really), it won't sign a death certificate for Trek. Nothing ever will. There is gold (money) to be had in Trek, it just comes down to figuring a way to mine it from the property. If there is proof that gold is in there (and there's plenty of that), a few failed or semi-failed attempts at getting at it are never going to shut down the whole mining operation. That would just be thee most short-sighted thee most dumbest business decision-making in the history of Paramount, pure and simple.

Paramount will never stop drilling, thinking that with just another inch of drilling it can hit another huge vein. You never just throw away a property, with its proven potential, in business.

Paramount needs more commercials running (TV shows) for its Trek merchandising (the real bucks to be had). Why do you think Lucas keeps coming up with new SW stuff (Clones Wars now). To keep the commercials running on the thing that really makes all the $$$.

Paramount would be no more likely to kill Trek off than Lucas would be to kill off SW. It would amount to nothing more than idiots in business. And these guys are not idiots about Trek, even for no other reason than to make a buck.

Moo Moo. Go feed the cash-cow suit.

The problem is market dilution. You don't sell scuba gear to desert rats, and you don't sell Trek to jocks.

Well that's a fairly discriminatory statement, and presumptious about the fanbase.
