From non-canon and canon sources for NCC-1701 as we've seen her on screen.

non-canon - April was captain of the Enterprise for 10 years. (TAS)
canon - Pike was 11 years. (The Menagerie)
canon - Kirk was 5 years. (Opening lines to TOS)
canon - Enterprise was refitted which took 2.5 years with Decker as it's captain. (TMP)
non-canon - Kirk was captain for another 10 years. (The Lost Years series of books and comics)
non-canon - I can't recall from where (maybe the comics) but I believe Spock was captain for about 2 years while teaching at the academy and Kirk was back at Starfleet command.

That's 40.5 years.

If you watch TWOK, Admiral Morrow say's, The Enterprise is 40 years old (I always assumed he just rounded down). Which, if you follow the above timeline, it would be.

This should be the Enterprise in the new movie. It's the best "reimagining" of TOS and adheres very well to what Abrams et al. have been saying about how the new movie will look like TOS, but in HD.

Here's the thread from TrekBBS.

And here are some images:

A bit low-res for feature film, but the design itself wouldn't be bad.

But back to the order of Captain's. We know the Enterprise had a long service life (the 20 years mentioned in TSFS is, I think, a blooper because a basic look at timelines doesn't bear it out), so not all her history can be filled in one film. I think the film will not throw out anything purely for the sake of it, but the writers will not adhere strictly, I think they themselves have said they are not above some 'minor' violations for the needs of the re-launch. What that means is anyone's guess until we see the finished film, but although I'm a fan of continuity and canon, I can live with a few changes for the larger picture - to get Trek back on track.
My feelings as well.

Agreed on the low res for a film, but like the design direction. Maybe??? I hope this is what we get.

At least it isn't a damn Christmas tree like Koerner's version. <grumble, grumble assorted grumpy old man noises>

Gabe's is nice "what if" study, but I wouldn;t want to see it onscreen.

I like the one pictured above very much. I don't understant the "low-res" thing though. I think it looks fantastic. You can see all the little details and it looks wonderful. As far as Gabe's version, it is waaaay cool, but I wouldn't want to see it on screen either. It's just too much overkill on the details. I also am of the "Captain April should be canon" crowd. Gene Roddenberry himself said he wanted the Enterprise to have some "history" and not be just a brand new ship. So I'm all for the Big E being well used prior to Kirk taking command. How they can squeeze April, Pike, and Kirk into one movie I don't know. It would be difficult in the least. But April should at least be mentioned.
