Default Good Captain?

Was Janeway a good captain? A role model, perhaps?
Damn, I wanted a poll with this and was interrupted by a PM... now it has been posted without the poll and I can't edit it

She always quoted Starfleet rules, and yet broke them every chance she got.

I think as the seasons went on, she became a better person, and captain, after not trying to find a short cut home all the time.

A role model... ehhhhh, I do not know about that.

It would have been nice for them to have done a "what if" episode showing what the crew would have been doing if they were not stuck in the Delta Quadrant. I have a felling Janeway would have been a different captain all together.

she was definitely a role model to women everywhere

she was strong, compassionate, humorous, and a good leader

She was a good Captain, always playing by the rules, until anything happened to Seven, and then she was willing to change time.

That reminds me of a certain Enterprise Captain, I once knew.

Janeway was a woman!?!

I have nothing against female characters in any capacity, but think that she was not pulled off well. I don't know if it was the writing, or the acting, but found her trying to be the female Kirk to such a degree that she lost any femininity at all. Out of all the Trek characters, I see her as the biggest failure.

She started off fine, a strong leader. Then she cried a couple times (when Tuvok sold their library and when the leader of the pleasure planet turned on her) and then had to spend the next couple seasons re-earning my respect. In the end she was alright but hardly noteworthy in my books.

Lol, so captains aren't allowed to cry? That's a tall order.

Anyways, I loved Janeway, mainly because she wasn't a perfect character. She may not have been the best captain compared to the other Trek captains, but not everyone can be the best, nor do they need to be.
