Nero's Chewed-Up Ear Mystery....Solved?

This may or may not be explanation, but for those of you who were 'troubled' about the apparent un-Romulan like ear on the teaser poster featuring Eric Bana as Nero:

I was watching an Australian film called Chopper which helped Eric (yeah, we're on first name terms) get noticed by Hollywood. Anyway in it he has quite short hair and I'm certain his ears were slightly nobbly along the outer edge of the lobe, similar to the poster.
I must admit I've never noticed before, but then I don't usually spend a lot time studying Eric Bana's ears...what with him having far more attractive features!

I know this doesn't expain why Nero's ears don't look pointed, but I thought it worth pointing out (no pun intended).

Dont forget that all romulans have tatoo's along with chewed ears.Maybe its an ethnic-for romulans-kind of thing for this era,or maybe nero's a very special leader.

I don't see anything particularly "chewed on" or knobby about his ears. Also, we know nothing about "all romulans". We know that all the romulans shown in this movie are pirates and they all have cropped ears and tattos....nothing at all to suggest that all romulans look this way.
